New Species For Treknature.

Near Threatened Species.

I have captured this male 'Maccoa Duck' (Oxyura maccoa) recently in Rondebult Bird Sanctuary. If I'm not wrong it's the first post of this bird. I found this bird early in the morning. You could see reddish morning light on water surface. I captured this picture from a hide which is situated bit higher than water surface.
46-51 cm male has a black head extending to the hind neck and throat. Bright blue bill. Chestnut body and short stiff black tail.

Maccoa Duck has a large range, divided in to Northern population occurring Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya and Tanzania and a southern population found in Angola, Botswana, Namibia, South Africa and Zimbabwe.

Hi Sri,
What a synchronity: we posted at almost the same time (and became neighbours in the gallery today), both of us about a species which was new to TN. Both images are beautiful. :-) Nice, sunny colors on yours with simple, yet effective composition. I like the eye contact and the swimming pose very much, as well as the color contrast. Valuable post with great note. Thanks and congratulations.
Kind regards from Ireland, László

Hello Srikumar,
Amazing colorful specie of duck. As usual exceptional details even of the tiny water drops on the feathers. Nice POV and perfect clarity.

hello Srikumar
Bravo pour cette prise, assez rare;bel effet du léger reflet sur l'eau.

Hello Srikumar,
Congratulations on a new species for treknature. What a colorful specimen, I particularly like its blue bill in contrast to the blackhead and cinnamon colored body. Excellent detail and perfectly exposed. Very nice eye contact.

Hi Srikumar,

I like the ripples on the water. the point of view is showing the details of the Maccoa duck. The good luminosity is enhancing the colors. Have a nice day.
