The Scarlet Macaw (Ara macao) is a large, colorful parrot.

It is native to humid evergreen forests in the American tropics, from extreme eastern Mexico locally to Amazonian Peru and Brazil, in lowlands up to 500 m (1,640 ft) (at least formerly up to 1,000 m (3,281 ft). It has been widely extirpated by habitat destruction and capture for the pet trade. Formerly it ranged north to southern Tamaulipas. It can still be found on the island of Coiba. It is also the Honduran national bird.

I think this is a Sarlet Macaw...:-)

Hello Annick,

This is a very fine portret of the parrot as you got a fine expresion of the bird and excelent colors. The way you have focused on the head looks great and shows good sharp details. There is also a very nice contrast between the colors of the bird and the gray background.

Thank you for sharing,

Hallo Annick,

Hi Annick amazing capture. He has beautiful colors. Nice sharp image with lot of details. Regards - Adil.

This is a great shot, I love the detail in the face. It really makes you try and figure out what he's thinking. However, I do have to correct you on something...this is actually a Greenwing Macaw, not a Scarlet. Greenwings are bigger, have green instead of yellow in their wing, and they have red markings on their face where the scarlets have no markings on their face. This is one of the most common mistakes of bird identification. Just wanted to update you. Really nice shot though.
TFS Steph
