Black-backed Jackal
I have captured this very shy Jacka5at Kruger National Park, during our staying at Shingwedzi Rest Camp. This picture was taken at Tropic of Capricorn Loop, Mopani area. I found at least 7 Jackal in different places in 500 meters proximity, but they were hidden in to the tall grass. Challenging situation, but I prefer.
The black-backed jackal (Canis mesomelas) is a canid native to two areas of Africa, separated by roughly 900 km.
The species is known by several different names, including saddle-backed, grey, silver-backed, red, and golden jackal (not to be confused with Canis aureus). The Latin mesomelas is a compound consisting of meso (middle) and melas (black). |

Great, great, great! Absolute beautiful jackal portrait with, in spite of the big distance, excellent sharpness. Grass blades and the flowers are framing the "doggy" well. Nice pose from them, excellent timing from you. Brilliant image!
