[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
We've had a lot of rain in this part of the country and the fungus was just springing up everywhere. At our offices we have a wall that with all the rain had a fantastic waterfall coming down it for days. We almost thought that we would be swimming soon. Of course when the sun started coming out and the water subsided and started to dry the wall was covered in green moss and fungi and that's when I saw this one and decided to take a photo with the new camera. I have no idea what it is called and it must be some common fungi that I'm sure Laszlo will know the name of it. To me it was just a beautiful flowering mushroom.
Enjoy and comments are welcome.

flower mushroom looks really beautiful. good lighting and angle. good work. tfs.

Hi Natley,

I'm glad you returned to TN. The photo's fantastic, beautifully showing a fruitbody which didn't got enough rain while growing, that's why its surface became so cracked and broken. When the youngs started to grow, there was enough rain, so their development was normal. Awesome visual impact for sure, with great sharpness, depth and pleasing compo. Bravo!

About the ID: on the cap of the middle specimen we can see the pink spore print of the rearmost fruitbody, and also a little bit of the guills of the cracked specimen. There aren't too many generas with pink spore print, but these generas (Entoloma, Pluteus, Volvariella) are notoriously difficult to identify, even with microscopic analysation. From the habit (your fungi was growing on dead wood, at least I see wood on the pic) I think you captured a Pluteus, a genus with many species macroscopically similar to, or at least not differing too much from each other. Probably a specialist of South African funga may identify it without microscope. Have a look on MycoAfrica, periodical of the African Mycological Society. Find contact address inside the newsletter.

Thanks for posting this great photo, I hope you'll capture and share more fungi in the near future. I wish you all the very best, friendly regards, László

PS: yes, I befriended with your brother Carl, he's a great person and a talented photographer.

Hi Natley,
Now this is what I would call a fantastic composition!! Pin sharp with a lot of detail and earthly colours. This photograph was taken from the right angle exposing the inside of the mushroom with fine detail and a perfect DOF. A First for me to see this and many thanks for sharing.
