Southern Ground Hornbill
 |
|
[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
I have captured this 'Southern Ground Hornbill' (Bucorvus leadbeateri) in Kruger National Park during our morning game drive in the Northern area. I found a few of this species, taking dust bath and were trying to find food from ground.
Southern Ground Hornbill is a vulnerable species, mainly confined to National reserves and National Parks. They forage on the ground.
Owing the large scale clearing of the specialized habitat for agricultural, along with its slow reproductive rate, Southern Ground Hornbill is classed as vulnerable to extinction; however, in South Africa where most studies on the species have been carried out, it is listed as endangered. |

Hello Srikumar,
I think this is the most strange looking bird I have ever seen....
Excellent details and focus as usual.
Marius.

Hi Srikumar, beautiful capture of this hornbill,i like the pose like a stretching moment, easy pic but very well done with the best sharpness. Have a nice Sunday and thanks,Luciano
Another very unusual bird (at least for those of us unaccustomed to such colorful and strange birds). Very well photographed - clear, colors look very natural, and good DOF to show clarity everywhere in the bird's body.

Hello Srikumar,
I too have captured this odd looking bird in Africa, but must admit not nearly as nicely as you have. Excellent detail and rich natural color tones. Wonderful eye contact and photographed in an attractive low POV.
Ron
Hi Sri,
Perfect capture as always from you. Excellent colors, fantastic textures on the plumage and the hornbill's pose is really funny. Like someone just got a heavy backpack and is trying to balance the load. :-) Conspicuous image, congratulations!
Kind regards from Ireland, László
Hi Srikumar,
The position of the bird seem to be to defy the photographer. The point of view is showing the details of the Southern Ground Hornbill. The good luminosity is enhancing the beauty of the colors. Have a nice day.
