[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is a repost of an old TE picture. I have reworked it from scratch and hope it looks better here on TN. First, this is for Japie, who posted the beautiful fly with the lovely mug of a cheetah as BG. This made me think of some flies that sneaked into some of my pictures as well. Dankie, Japie. This is an old picture - We were working on a Macro WS in May 2003 and found this dragon to use as prop. I set him up nicely, had the card 300 mm behind him for the uncluttered BG, the trusty old Nikon F90X on the tripod & the Elicar 90 mm F2.5 macro lens with off shutter SB28 flash & camera at f22 & about 1/60 second SS. This works well on most macro shots, in manual mode, but you have to play, bracket and redo. Fuji Provia 100F slide film, scanned on Epson 2400 flatbed. Levels, USM and resized.
Robert and Bente, finally a name : This is a Wandering Glider - Pantala Flavenscens , up to 80 mm wingspan. A medium to large dragon, orange yellow with long, clear wings & the yellow patches at the base at the hind wings. Sometimes it has an amber patch on the tip of each wing. It is common in all parts of Africa, and found in Asia, the Americas and Oz. So, this is why you guys could not help me last year.
And then the Quick a handy fly landing at the right time on the right place. I have been lucky with this a couple of times already in the past where the insect just materialised at the right time.

Very good shot Callie, can I ask where the Dragonfly legs went>? Were they trimmed off? It must be a fairly fresh death as the colours are very strong. Nice capture of the Japie Invader fly :-)

Well done.

Dank u Callie!
