This means curly tail in Afrikaans.

This is my personal favourite leopard picture, of many I was lucky enough to have landed. I have mug-shots that are maybe more in your face, also some others showing action or a cute face. However, the pose of this cat, his alert mode, the curling tail indicating that he is NOT asleep, the way he is looking between the branches, all this creates the mood that I wish I could replicate more on my photographs.

You already know this young, male leopard – he is approximately 18 months old. The venue is Sabi Sands Private Game Reserve, around May 2002.

Shooting details - My trusty old Nikon F90X, SB28 flash, Sigma 50-500 lens, all long sold and the sturdy shoulder of my wife - still in demand and not for sale - as a camera support. Slide film was Sensia 100, I think, and scanned on flatbed scanner.

Callie, When I see the leopard it always amazes me to think how such a beautiful creature can transform in an instant into a fierce & terrifying killing machine.. I can't imagine what it would be like to turn and find one self face to face with one!! I like the setting & light here very much. The posture of the leopard combined with its intense look make this one very special IMO. Well done!!

Great shot Callie.
Great pose and comosition and very good details.
Very well done.
I did a WS, this the first time I touch your picture ;-).
IMO it's a little red tone in the picture, maybe it should be.
but anyway I did a ws.

I'm surprised you haven't got the complaint of "Too bad the branches are in the way," or "Too bad the branch is cuuting the body," yet.
I'm sick and tired of that.

Hey, perfect natural setting with a beautiful warm tone coming from the sun. What a pose of the cat. Well done, Callie.

Gorgeous capture, the pose is great - the tail is not obvious right away but when you see it the whole composition seems to fit. The sun on it's face is fantastic. Well done.

Hoi Callie,

Dat is een mooie Krulstert van deze panter, ik denk Callie dat deze panter zicht mooi in houding zet voor de fotograaf, om er prachtig op te staan.
U bent een artiest op dit gebied!!!

Very nice capture Callie. The horizontal aspect works well here and the cat in the tree is a definite bonus. Yes a super shot. well done.

OOhh hy is pragtig, lyk of hy jou enige oomblik kan bespring !!!

He does mean business.. Everything is perfect. WHen are we seeing you in National Geographic ??

I agree this pose is fantastic. It does not seem to be "posing" for the shot because it know you are there, but looks as if you stealed this shot from his intimity. You should make a present to us from time to time and post this ones in Large format. Must be impressing. Thanks very much, this is appreciated.

Excellent pic.

Great Foto!!

Wonderful capture, perfect! Razorsharp image of a beautiful animal.

GREAT Photo! Just wonderful. I love your photo from Africa.. they are so... exciting, so original, so exotic... This is just perfect shot with the situation. Thanks!

Points tomorrow!

Great pose and determined look on the leopards face. In my opinion though its too orangey and Gert's workshop is a better result.

I'm please you finally found a use for wives!!:)

Great composition, Callie. I like how you have captured the leopard - it looks ready for action. I also like how the branch creates a diagonal divide between the different colours. Well seen and framed.

this is one cat I cannot get hold of yet! but one day i will gett lucky.

great shot Callie!
