|[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note|
|Differs from similar, but smaller Pigmy Kingfisher by having the turquoise and black barred crown extending below the eye, and by lacking the violet wash on the sides of the head. Imm's balck bill might lead the confusion with the Halcollared Kingfisher, but this species is smaller, has a dark back and reddish brown underparts. Habitat : Reedbeds surrounding freshwater lakes and along streams and lagoons. Common in suitable habitat throughout the region except the extreme dry west.|
