Dear readers and friends,

Day 14. (14/20)
Kruger National Park.
We reached the far north: Crooks Corner!
Now we are travelling back southwards and our camp is Letaba.
The weather is a bit cloudy in the morning, then warmer and finally a beautiful evening light. The golden light!

I dedicate this image to the biologists among us, more specific the friends specialized in reptiles and amphibians. I'm thinking about Horia, Jacob,...and the people I forgot to mention;-)

And I hope they help me with the ID)-:

...and they did VERY FAST actually

Hi Annick

YES!!! I was so hoping for something like this and here it is! A huge lizard from your wonderful quest from Africa! How cool!
Now i'm not an expert on monitor lizards...especially if they from a different continent, but i've done some searching and i think this might be the White-throated monitor or Varanus albigularis.
Here you may find a site about that species and comparing the characters i'd say they look rather alike.

Back now to your outstanding shot :)
What a perfect timing!!! Catching that huge vividly colored tongue flicking like that was absolutely brilliant! I'm wondering what interesting preys was see sniffing around for :)
Terrific shot, my friend, presenting this monitor with some great sharp details and also lovely attention towards that cool texture of his.
...I can't help it...i'm so excited to see such creatures too from Africa! (not only lions and elephants...not that they aren't beautiful, but it's the only thing people take pictures of there).

A very big TFS
Horia

Great shot! very clear and with nice composition!

Hi Annick,
Er zijn altijd mensen en blijkbaar dus ook dieren die hun tong uit moeten steken op de foto en deze is daar dus ook een van.
Prachtig vastgelegd met fantastisch licht en schaduw.
Scherpte, details etc zoals altijd perfect.

Annick,
Great 3D looking image; it's looking right at me. For a moment I thought that it would "jump" right out from the screen on to my desk. SO VERY REAL.
GREAT GREAT PHOTOGRAPHY. One of the BEST on TN.
Excellent clarity for such a low ISO.
Hope someday I can "match" this one.
Best regards, Mario from Calgary, Canada.
