We were travelling around the Skukuza region on a very hot afternoon, in search of a pride of Lions that were in lazying in a river bed all day.

After leaving camp, we had an eager anticipation of seeing some big cats in a river bed. About 7 kilometers from camp, we travelled round a bend in the road, seeing a Hyena cross the road and stopped momentarily to see if he had any others with him. It was not to be, however a little further on we saw some movement in a tree on the opposite side of the road. Nothing could have prepared us for what we were about to see.........

Hi Stranger

It figures, it had to be something great like a leopard in a tree to get you back to post a shot. Tonight I'll play the song "Blue Moon" and think about this image.

A lovely surprise you had, but that is what makes Kruger so great. You never know what's waiting around the next bend. I once approached the "circus" at a lion sighting near Olifants and slowly worked my way through the traffic so I could get to the other side and approach from there as there were less cars that side. Finally I managed to work my way past the queue and went a distance past the last vehicle to turn around and in so doing actually had to go around a slight bend in the road. And what did we find there? Standing in the middle of the road, waiting just for us, a huge male leopard. I captured some shots of the animal and then it disappeared into the bush, but I just had to smile at the irony. While most at the lion circus was upset because they thought I was pushing in to the queue all I wanted to do was to get past them, but then I got to see the leopard which none of them had the opportunity to see.

This is a lovely shot with the greenery of the tree forming a lovely BG to enhance this imposing animal. The colours are natural and the details are great. I just love the positive eye contact and that pendulous tail.

Well done and TFS.

Hi Sheriff.
I have lost you a bit. Sorry. I will correct my mistake and renew our TN-friendship.
Amazing picture of the sweet animal at wonderful surroundings and attractive pose. I am impressed with eye-contact, superb composition and framing of the image and terrific rich colours. Sharpness, details and DOF are great too. Bravo and my kind regards.

A superb Kruger day apparently, Sheriff. We can communicate;-)
Near headcamp Skukuza; well, 7 km isn't really close either.
Wonderful animal!

Hi Sheriff,
That is a lovely image. A leopard in a tree something i have wished for.I like the pose with the green leafy background.

Dear Sheriff,
It's a beautiful capture of this relaxing leopard. Apparently it looks that it is enjoying his/her siesta after great fiesta even though tummy does not look full. So waiting for the right opportunity ! Great shot :).
Regards-Dr Subhash Ranjan

How lucky you were to get this close-up. My only siting of a leopard up a tree was too far to get a decent photo. You have not wasted the opportunity to capture a really nice image. Well done and TFS.

Great pic. One can't pick and choose the position from whence the shot is taken so the light and contrast is often a problem. You have made the most of the circumstances. Have you tried a little extra brightness?

Hi Sheriff,
This is so impressive! What a big cat! He or she seems to be hot too with its mouth opened. This is a superb capture with great POV, natural exposure and details. I have this dream of going to Kruger someday but it is so far from Quebec... You must be proud of this incredible picture! Thanks,

Wowwww Sheriff, impressive shot very well captured, technically perfect with a very good focus, splendid colours and lovely pose,

I could be a great friend of this guy...i totally understand how he feels :)) All he needs now is a remote and a cold beer :))

A very good shot from you and an excellent close-up of this magnificent predator!
Very neat and sharp, taken from a good POV and in terrific timing - hence catching that always desired eye-contact :)
Very nicely done!

Bravo and TFS

Hi Sheriff, splendid portrait of this fascinating creature with excellent sharpness and wonderful colors, very well done, ciao Silvio

Hello Sheriff,
Since your previous image was posted before I joined TN, I have missed your fine gallery.
This shot of a Leopard in the heat it great. You can see that he is totally relaxed to minimise body heat production in the shade of an old tree. The technical features are excellent with good colours light management and sharpness and as he is looking directly at the camera the central composition works well.
Thanks for sharing this one,

Hello Sheriff. What a stunning capture of this one. Lazy boy indeed with the limbs dangling loose from the tree. The pose is nice for the shot and this is a really dreamy nature capture. Well done and best regards. Jusni

Hi Sheriff

Thanks for your critique on my recent image, Sheriff.
This is a brilliant capture of a beautiful cat enjoying itself on the branch of a tree. It looks fully relaxed and unconcerned about your presence.
Well done and thanks for sharing.

Sleepy little cat. Even if am brave in nature (except for presence of bears and terriers :)), i dont wknow i would do if i were you. The photograph is awesome (experience talks here)

Hi Sheriff,

This is the ultimate safarishot! Incredible, you were very lucky that day. To see a leopard in this pose is a dream..

Hallo Sheriff
I think this scene is any photographers dream. Impressive photo with lots of details to appreciate. Good detail of the leopard. The red of the mouth, the greenish colour of the staring eyes are truly eye-catching. What amazes me the most is the detail of the whiskers so clearly visible. I can just imagine your excitement while taking this photograph. When Loot and I are in the game reserve and he get the opportunity to capture a leopard the adrenalin pumps likes crazy for the both of us. Looking at this image one just realise once again that nature is simply stunning, and that we are very fortunate to see the beauty of it. If not in real life, we see it by ways of brilliant photos, and this posting of yours is no exception. Very interesting to look at. Thanks for sharing.
Kind regards

Hi Sheriff,

What an amazing gallery you have! This leopard is just spectacular. The eye contact is phenomenal - he seems to be smiling at you. He certainly looks relaxed with the legs just dangling from the tree. Beautiful colors, fantastic setting, and wonderful details of the beautiful animal. Composition is super - this is a really special shot.

Nah, it does not get better than this - nothing beats seeing a LIT like this, the whole trip suddenly has sparkles attached and the silly smile just do not leave one's face! Glad you got your CAT!, Sheriff.

Hi Sheriff,

Good to see you are still on TN. What a nice scene. I have been fortunate, and have seen many leopards in Kruger, I even saw leopards mating in Kruger, but not ever have I seen one in a tree. I find it quite strange. You are so fortunate to have seen this. Very well composed, a magnificent shot! Well done.

Hello Sheriff,
I have just visited your great portfolio. I saw many great capture from marvellous nature of Africa. All of them without exception great. I'd like to write to all of them, I prefer this lazy boy. Panthera pardus tulliana was endemic form of this species in Turkiye. Unfortunately it extinct recently. Nice to see it in natural biotop. You captured it with excellent shot. focus, colors, composition and eyes contact great. thanks for sharing, best wishes

Great shot! The colours, the way the leopard is resting lazily, the bright red within its open mouth, all look wonderful. Thanks for sharing.
