A lousy day, yesterday.
Last week I bought a new lens, a Sigma 135-400mm f/4.5-5.6 APO and I connected it on my camera. Yesterday I made my preparations for a short week to Terschelling, a small island for the coast of Holland. My camera with the lens felt out of my photo bag. The lens broke from my camera and my camera (Nikon D70) was cracked. I had to buy a new one. Now I bought a Nikon D300.
So next week I have to try out a new camera ánd new lens.

Last weekend I placed a photo of a Kurrichane Thrush here on TN. This is a photo of the same Thrush in another pose.

The Kurrichane Thrush (Turdus libonyanus) is common resident in SE Africa.
It has distinct black and white throat markings and white eyebrows. 22 cm.
Calls a loud 'peet-peeoo' at dusk and has a mellow, complicated song with trills and warbles in short outbursts.
Found mostly single in a variety of wooded habitats including rural suburbia.

Hi Peter

Lovely shot of this Kurrichane Thrush - nice detail and colur. It seems that everyone is breaking lenses and cameras at the moment - I broke my 300 2.8 and Horia has broken one of his lenses.

Splendida immagine di questo bellissimo uccello, ottimo POV e contatto diretto con lo sguardo, molto buona la nitidezza e molto belli i colori. Grazie e complimenti. Ciao Maurizio

Hello Peter,
A nice image of this Thrush, an interesting POV shows us those fantastic throat markings. Good detail and great colours. I'm so sorry to hear about your equipment, I've done exactly the same thing myself and know how painful it is to see those cracks and breaks. The good news is that I think you'll love the D300, it's a fantastic camera. I bought it as a second body to my D2x, but the D2x is now the second body.
Best regards,

Hello Peter,
Bad stroke of luck Peter with the camera. This thrust looks alot like an American Robin. Wonderful image with bright color and sharp focus. Great work Peter and better luck with your new camera.

Hello Peter,
First of all I am sorry to hear about your camera and lens. You must have felt very bad over the incident. But I am sure D300 will soon wipe away all your sorrows. It's a good camera, isn't it?
This is a fine capture of the Kurrichane Thrush taken at good POV
it's rarely that you get pictures of birds directly looking at you.Excellent sharpness and details. Good colours.

Hello Peter

A wonderful capture of this thrush.
Excellent eye contact with sharp details.
The colours are natural and well saturated.
The POV and DOF are very good.

Thanks for sharing this wonderful picture. It looks like a relative of an American Robin. You've captured it in a fine pose, with great detail, POV and lighting. Very nicely done.
BTW, How do you like your D300 ? I got that myself not too long ago and I am still in the process of getting used to it. (Too bad the birds are not cooperating the way I'd want them to...)

Best Regards,

Hi Peter.
Once more cute shot of the beautiful bird. Its glance and eye –contact are so impressive. Your POV and composition of the shot are excellent as well as natural rich colours, superb details and sharpness of the bird image and FG. BG is well blurred quite a bit. My compliments. Perfect job.
