A friend & I visited the aviary in Krugersdorp Private game reserve some time ago. This Purple-crested Turaco - Musophaga porphyreolopha – 43 cm presented himself right in the late afternoon sunlight, the ideal light to bring out his gorgeous colours in all their iridescence. He was near enough to fill the frame well with only a bit of cropping on the right. He was sitting in a tree & raising his crest, so, who will not press the shutter release? Turacos are arboreal, medium sized birds with long tails. There are 23 species worldwide, all found in Africa, of which six in SA, with 1 SA endemic. Mostly frugivorours, they clamber & bound through the trees rather than flying. I like this shot a lot for its slightly raised crest and natural colours. Enjoy it with me.

Good Morning Calle, Such brilliant colors with my coffee! I guess I could say " The Best Part of Waking Up is Turaco In My Cup"!! Great profile of this bird & the colors seem well balanced. Very Nice!

Do tell this chap to wipe his bill before a photo session next time ;-))
Great portrait with excellent colours and very good details, sharpness, light and DOF. Well placed in the frame against the clean background.

I would never spect to see the colours of damisels in a bird. You keep surprising us, and with outstanding quality, thanks a lot.

Maravilloso colorido... en la cabeza de esta ave está capturado todo un arco iris.
Gran composicion, gran nitidez y perfecto DOF.
10 puntos... una vez más.

Wonderful colorful... in the head of this bird a rainbow is captured everything.
Great composition, great clearness and perfect DOF.
10 points... once again.

The colours are amazing callie, the detail round the eye on my screen is almost 3D. nice one.

And again... this mugshot is exceptional because of the bright colours. You handled the iridescence masterfully, without overexposing the frame. Brilliant.
