|Today we had our annual birding day on the mine and it was a super day. It first started out with a good shower of rain but once the rain stopped and the sky cleared it was great until the sun came out a few hours later and we all felt like we were in a sauna with the humid heat pushing up from the ground. But none the less we saw 95 different species of birds and it was a most enjoyable day. We were six vehicles that went to different parts of the mine and then came together again at the mines game reserve picnic spot for lunch.|
We also had our prize giving for our bird competion we’ve had since April and I was fortunate to get two first places and a third place. My prizes were fantastic. I got two bean bags, R1 000 gift voucher, 2 beautiful books on photography, a small gorilla pod, a bag for my bird books and a t-shirt. So I was really surprised at the fantastic prizes but it did not end there. They also had a lucky draw and to my astonishment drew my name and I was given a fantastic prize – a Bushnell Legend Ultra HD Spotting Scope. So needless to say I’m still on cloud nine and cannot believe my good fortune.
I was fortunate to be in one of the two vehicles that were allowed to go to the dams on the mine and I took this photo of this White Breasted Cormorant. Not much time for photography because it was a birding day and we had to see who would see the most different species of birds. We came second. The group that came first saw a 112.
Enjoy and comments are welcome.
