I had taken this picture in my trip to Kruger National Park and Marloth Park,South Africa. It was a little bit cloudy day,but I noticed different type of species here.
Zebras are several species of African equids(Horse family)united by their distinctive black and white stripes.Their stripes come in different patterns, unique to each individual. They are generally social animals that live in small harems to large herds.
There are three species of Zebras:The Plains Zebra(Equus Quagga),the Greyvas Zebras and the mountain Zebra belong to the subgenus Hippotigris, but Grevys Zebras are is the sole species of subgenus Dolichohippus. The latter resembles an ass,to which it is closely related, while the former two are more horse-like.
Zebras evolved among the old world horses with in the last 4million years.
SIZE AND WEIGHT:-The common plain Zebra is about 50-52 inches at the shoulder with a body ranging from 6-8.5 feet long with an 18 inch tail.It can weight up to 770 pounds(350kg).males being slightly bigger than females.
STRIPES:-It was previously believed that Zebras were white animals with black stripes, since some Zebras have white underbellies.Embryological evidence, however shows that the animal's background colour is black and the white stripes and bellies are additions. The stripes are typically vertical on the head, neck, forequarters, and main body, with horizontal stripes at the rear and on the legs of the animal. The "Zebra Crossing" is named after the Zebra's black and white stripes.
GAITS:-Like horses Zebras walk, trot, canter and gallop. They are generally slower than horses.
SENSES:-Zebras have excellent eyesight. It is believed that they can see in colour like most ungulates, the Zebra has its eyes on the sides of its head, giving it a wide field of view.Zebras also have night vision.
FOOD:-Zebra feed almost entirely on grasses, but may occasionally eat shrubs, herbs, twigs, leaves and bark.
REPRODUCTION:-Female Zebras mature earlier than the males and a mare may have her first foal by the age of three.Males are not able to breed untill the age of five or six.Mares may give birth to one foal every twelve months.

This is a fairly good picture of a Zebra you took there.

Hello Srikumar,
A fine capture of the Plains Zebra taken in a fine pose from a good POV. The natural colours and sharpness are superb. I would have given more space on the left of the image as that is where the īzebra is looking, but that's a small point.
Thanks and best regards,

hallo Sri

How special to shoot in Africa...a dream to me.

Hello Srikumar.
A nice zebra portrait from your SA trip. The head turn and body stripes are in good details under fine natural setting.
Thanks and have a great week.

Hi Srikumar,

The tight frame is putting the zebra in evidence. The point of view is showing the details and colors of the zebra. The light has a good effect on the colours. Have a nice day.
