I had captured this Ostrich(Male)picture in Orpen(Kruger National Park);South Africa


The Ostrich or Common Ostrich(Struthio camelus) is either one or two species of large fightless birds native to Africa,the only living member(s) of the genus Struthio,which is in the ratite family.Some analyses indicate that the Somali Ostrich may be better considered a full species separate from the Common Ostrich,but most taxonomist consider it to be a subspecies.

THE OSTRICH'S DIET CONSISTS MAINLY OF PLANT MATTER,THOUGH IT ALSO EATS INVERTEBRATES.IT LIVES IN NOMADIC GROUPS OF 5 TO 50 BIRDS.WHEN THREATENED,THE OSTRICH WILL EITHER HIDE ITSELF BY LYING FLAT AGAINST THE GROUND,OR RUN AWAY.

Ostriches usually weigh from 63 to 145 Kg.The feathers of adult males are mostly black,with white primaries and a white tail.

Hi Srikumar.
Great scene and perfect shot. Combination of dark BG and crowns of the trees and sunlight with long shadows as well as attractive curve of the rad as a frame of the scene are fantastic. Beautiful photo of this African scene. The warm light is gorgeous and the composition marvelous. A pity that there are no more details to see in the feathers of the Ostrich. But a beauty it is!

Hi Srikumar. I like how you've caught him in the sun light. I also like that you left a lot of scenery around him to show his environment. Because of the sun his neck is the same colour as the grass. A nice match. I wonder what you wear for shoes in this park. Do you wear steel toe boots for protection? Trevor

What a lovely [flightless] bird. It's huge. Have compared it to the surrounding vegetation.
The scenery is so tropical; reminds me of Goa, India where I was born and lived till about 5 years of age.
I'll send you a "cropped" version of this image; I've taken out the Highway. Perhaps you, YOU, could place it into your workshop version if you like it. OK?

Hi Srikumar, Great captured moment of this ostrich in its natural habitat. Nice angle taken with such unexpected moment and the curve point of the trail give sense of depth to the composition. Thank for sharing
