[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I had captured this Hornbill's picture between Skukuza and Pretoriuskop, when a group of Hornbill were busy to eat a big snake, called Boomslang. It was a Sunny day.

The Southern Ground Hornbill(Bucorvus leadbeateri; formerly known as Bucorvus Cafer), is one of two species of ground Hornbill and is the largest species of Hornbill. The other species of the genus Bucorvus is the Abyssinian ground hornbill.

Genus: Bucorvus
Species:B.leadbeateri(Vigors- 1825) & Bucorvus Cafer( Vigors- 1825)

This is a large bird, at 90 to 129 cm long. Females weigh 2.2 to 4.6 Lg, while the larger males weigh 3.5 to 6.2 Kg.

Southern Ground Hornbill can be found from nothern Namibia and Angola to northern South Africa to Burundi and Kenya.

Southern Ground Hornbill groups are very vocal.

What I can tell you, Srikumar? Thanks ... it is little. THANK YOU for sharing this wonderful photograph of a bird unknown to me; and from your work will be for me one of the most beautiful and strange world. Great focus and perfect exposure; despite being obtained under the terrible African sun. All hats off to you, friend; and a little envy is fabulous trip to Africa ...

What a lovely bird.
It eats snakes ... wonder if this species is immune to snake poison?
The exposure is perfect!!!
Loved your notes too.
Mario with greetings from Canada.

Hello Srikumar,
Very nice close photo of this hornbill in beautiful natural colours. Good sharpness. Have seen its nephew in Ethiopia, the Abyssinian Ground-Hornbill, eating a snake. Photo here on TN.

Hi Srikumar,
Excellent shot of this Hornbill. Amazing colours and sharpness details.
Despite the sharp light very nice picture.
Regards Jiri.

Ciao Srikumar, great capture of lovely bird, wonderful colors, fine details and splendid sharpness, very well done, my friend, ciao Silvio

hallo Sri
very good picture with nice details and lovely naturel colours
thanks gr lou

Hello Srikumar,
In the wild it is not easy to get close enough to them for taking a photo. They are also found in our area, albeit not abundantly so, which is the southeastern part of South Africa where I have personally observed them outside of nature reserves. So it seems their area of distribution is wider than generally believed. This is a very good image. Well done.

PS: A boomslang is large when fully grown, but not gigantic. Was it a luislang perhaps...which is gigantic?
