I had captured this " Crowned Hornbill " at Skukuza, in Kruger National Park. It was a sunny day and the bird was little bit far from my range.

The Crowned Hornbill ( Tockus alboterminatus ) is an African Hornbill. It is a medium- sized bird, 50-54 cm in length, and is characterized by its white belly and black back and wings. The tips of the long tail feathers are white. The eyes are yellow; the beak is red and presents a stocky casque on the upper mandible.

Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Aves
Class: Coraciiformes
Family: Bucerotidae
Subfamily: Bucerotinae
Genus: Tockus
Species: T. alboterminatus ( Buttikofer 1889 )

This Hornbill species can be seen in flocks, usually in the dry season. Four to five white eggs are incubated for 25 to 30 days; the juveniles remain with both parents for about 8 weeks.

Shalom Srikumar,

Very interesting bird. The picture is good, but it seems you over-sharpened it a bit.

Ciao Srikumar, great capture of fantastic bird in nice pose, fine details, wonderful natural colors and splendid sharpness, very well done, my friend, ciao Silvio

Hello Srikumar,

Hope you are well. A wonderful distant shot of the bird so a good catch. I also agree with Ishi but it is always gratifying to post photo of a new species. Well done! Thanks a lot for sharing an overall fine shot, friend , take care,

warm regards/Abid .

Hello Srikumar,
Splendid photo with perfect focus. Excellent contrast and sharp details. I like the contrast of this interesting specie against the blue sky. Only the branches have some funny colors.
Thanks for sharing!

hallo Sri
great shot with good composition and beautiful colours
thanks gr lou

Despite your difficulties you did quite well.
The head area is a tad noisy.
Excellent focus over all.
Loved the B/G accompanying the Crowned Hornbill. Blends in nicely.
Best regards from Mario.

Hello Srikumar,
Nice photo of this Crowned Hornbill in fine contrasting colours and a good composition. The 300 mm lens was not enough to get the best sharpness and details. But a new bird in your gallery is more important and always the best quality. I think the same about my postings.

Hi Srikumar

Very beautiful image of this "proud" bird, excellent composition, excellent BG color, very beautiful natural colors, excellent clarity. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Srikumar,it was very distant by you and maybe you crop a lot the pic,the result is a lost of detail but no problem, this specie is very interesting and not often seen on TN,i like it! Have a nice day and thanks,Luciano

EXCELLENT capture of this hornbill from a long distance I think.Despite of the distance details are very good with clear eye.

HI Srikumar,

This is a very difficult attempt at coming up with a decent result here my good friend, however there are a few issues with this image, one is either over cropping or over sharpened?, the other is the dead branches surrounding the bird are very distracting and takes ones attention away from the subject, nevertheless a gallant attempt,

Clearly oversharpen,to make better a soft foto.Tough to capture perfect from distance.

Hi Srikumar

A nice composition - a little oversharpened, but that is sometimes difficult to see before you upload. Great colours.

Best wishes
