[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Geologists & prospectors have a special geological pick – a hammer-pick combination tool. It looks like a standard hammer with a pick-like hook on the back. This is used when prospecting or chipping rock samples. Well, here you can see the original version, in the “hands” of an expert, so to speak. Hoopoes are insectivorous and use their specially adapted bills to peck into the soil and extract edible morsels such as grubs and other insects. They like open veld and will forage up and down a suitable area, pecking, finding & feeding. They will also sit on exposed perches and give their hoep hoep call. This photograph depicts the bird fully in profile with the crest in the normal, un-alarmed mode. Seehttp://www.treknature.com/images/photos/4/hoopoe-001_s_.jpg for species info - I hope I get this right! No, please help, how do I get the URL in here to say - see here?

Funny looking and very cute bird Callie. As usual a very good shot. The details of the feathers are very nice and i like the colours. Great DoF. I tmakes the birds stan dout at the same time as we see some details of the ground.

Now the complete Hop, beautiful bird isn't it ? I again like this Hop, Callie !
Nice bird, nice picture !

Anther nice one Callie, just one problem they keep reminding me of home and my mom's cooking. Very nice take. Thanx for sharing.

LOL, excellent - it looks just like a feathered version of the pick I used to use! Nice use of DOF to isolate ?him from the background, and the histogram on this one is about right too. I might be tempted to use a little Contrast Masking to make him pop slightly more, but he's fine as he is.

Very well done.

Very strange bird - I have never seen one of these before, not even on TV.

Great capture with very good techniques and note as usual.

Well captured! The title is funny, the definition and the colours are excellent.
Belle capture! Le titre est amusant, la définition et les couleurs sont excellentes.

C'est donc ici que vous vous cachiez Callie. Votre prise est d'une grande netteté et bien cadrée, les couleurs de l'oiseau se marient bien à son environnement. Very nice job Callie.
