[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This spider seems to be saying: "Stare me down if you can. I won't blink." What makes it worse is he really didn't blink, or even turn away.

The spider is a Jumping Spider from the family Salticidae. This spider is a common inhabitant in houses and grows between 4 and 17mm long.

The jumping spider hunts using its excellent eyesight followed by a brief stalk and then jumps its prey. They do not spin webs but instead a single line of silk along which it can move and haul its prey.

The family is the largest in Africa with 622 species and they eat tiny insects. In fact they do not jump using muscle power but instead uses hydrolic pressure to propel forward.

Great shot. Looks very aggressive. Good POV & DOF for such a little (dangerous) creature. Good thing it did not jump on you.

Hi,
I agree the thrust is on the eyes. But wont it have been better to include the whole body in focus by increasing the DOF.

Very nice composition but the shot needs more sharpness! Salticiids are a great family :-)
