African Goshawk. (Afrikaanse sperwer ) Accipiter tachiro
Size 37-39cm
This little fellow has an injured wing and was very sceptical of the camera. It was impossible for him to remain still for more than 2 or 3 seconds making it very difficult to get a shot in.
This was about the best I could manage. The specimen was still a juvenile but has the makings of becoming a very beautiful bird when full grown.
The species is very active in the earlt morning and late afternoon.
Males are very territorial and fly very high, where they flap the wings rapidly and make a "Krit" sound every two or three seconds.
They prefer bushy valleys and and mountainess areas.
Hope you like his mean look.

This is very nice Willie! Good clean sharp image with great details. Wonderful coloration & markings seen this close. It seems that the hawk & eagle both have that distinctive ridge over the brow that give them a stern/mean look. Nice catch light seen in the eye also. Great post!

Hulle sê goeie goed is skaars. So, I hope it is true. I see you have been busy, and improving - way to go, Willie. This is a nice, moody mugshot, showing us the character of this master woodland flier!

Pragtig! This is a real beauty - the image is sharp and the exposure very good.

Thanks for posting

he looks ready to find or lets say hunt some food :o)
good shot, very nice coloursn good details on the feithers.well done!

Willie, this is superb!! I think it is the best shot you have posted!! Very nice work!!

Good detail and compose, your timing was great. patience and hard work paid of with a very nice shot! Wish I could learn the patience.

Willie, I like the expression upon the face of the bird.

A bounce of fill in flash and one notch more in focus and this wouldve been perfect! I really like your portraiture, you have patience and eye for great portraiture of animals but camera needs to be a bit more tamed (I am one of those annoying judges that reminds you to never enjoy your art but continuosly search for perfection) Only because of your potential !

Nice crisp shot. I worked with goshawks (Accipiter nisus)in Germany, but long before I owned a camera. Your photo brings back some nice memories...thanks.
