African Fish Eagle (Haliaeetus vocifer) Visarend

The African Fish Eagle is a large predatory bird with a wingspan of 191cm and length of 63-73cm.
Body and wings are dark contrasting with white head and tail. Belly and wing coverts dark chestnut. Wings and back black. Iris hazel to dark brown; bill black; cere, lores, legs and feet are yellow.

Distribution: Africa South of the Sahara.

Habitat: Large rivers, lakes, pans and dams usually with large trees.

Food: Mainly fish up to 1kg. Allso eats carrion, nestlings and eggs of waterbirds.

This image was taken near the Sabie river between Skukuza and Lower Sabie in the Kruger National Park.
I did not have a choice regarding time of day - image taken about midday resulting in overexposure of the whites.

Very Nice Ben. This is one shot I really admire. I have tried in vain for one myself. The closest I get to them is about 150 metres then they're gone. Excellent detail. 20 points

Hi Ben very nice shot of this magnificent bird. Great work.

Ben, Crisp sharp & detailed, this is an excellent capture. I haven't even looked below but I'll bet someone has said that you might have benefitted from some fish to dangle in order to get its attention?? Don't think the heads really over much..just gettin' white like the rest of us old-timers! ;-)

Great shot. Sorry I am running behind a bit, after the weekend away. Will try to write a proper critique later.

Great shot great colors and pose.
Well done.

I like the POV for this one, Ben. It allows us to appreciate all the sharpness of its plumage. Good composition and note.

Beautiful portrait against the blue sky. Very good sharp image, and at such a distance…
