[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This crater in Tanzania is the world's largest unbroken, unflooded volcanic caldera. A caldera forms when a volcanoe explodes and collapses on itself. It is estimated this happened here around 2,5 million years ago.
It is so big, the vegetation and rainfall differs depending on the place in the crater.

Around 25,000 large animals populate the crater, including black rhinoceros, lions, leopards, elephants, buffaloes, wildebeests, gazelles.

Another panorama, taken late in afternoon. It's 3 photos stitched together. Also check out the Large Post to get a bigger picture.

Thank you for your attention and time.

Hello Johannes,
wow what a view! Hard to believe that those hills in the distance are just the other side of the Caldera, it gives a great impression of just how big it is. Very nicely composed with excellent exposure and colour, the large version is very impressive.
Also, a great job on the stitching too, looks pretty much seamless. thanks for sharing this!
