[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Papilio demodocus, also known as the citrus swallowtail, is a large swallowtail butterfly common to sub-Saharan Africa. It is a pest species, the caterpillar feeding on citrus trees.
Citrus swallowtails pass through approximately three generations per year. Eggs are laid singly on citrus tree leaves.
Female butterflies lay their eggs singly on citrus leaves. After about six days, the egg hatches into an immature
The immature larvae are black, yellow, and white with spikes. Their coloration provides effective camouflage, as they resemble bird droppings. They grow to a length of 10 or 15 mm before changing into mature larvae.

A beautiful individual and a beautifully executed capture Ferran, the razor-sharp image displays the salient features of the Swallowtail clearly and the oleander (?) flower it is feeding on provides a good counterpoint regarding colour contrast. TFS this fine image.

Hello Feran,

This is a vey nice photo of the butterfly. The insect is shown very well as most of its image is sharp. The pattern and colors of the wings ahve been well rendered. There is a fine contrast between the insect and the flower itis sitting on. The sharp image of the insect stays nicely against the blurry and even background.

Thank you for sharing,
Cristian

Hola Ferran,
A fine capture of a species of Butterfly that evokes memories from my visits to Africa. A spectacular Papilionid that is a joy to see and this image taken from a fine POV shows P. demodocus with almost total sharpness in a fine composition on the flower. The neutral natural BG is ideal.
Mucha gracias por compartirla,
Un saludo Ferran

Precioso papilo que creo que no se aprecian por estos lares ,muy buena definición y composición exquisita...saludos
