[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This was taken in the Acacia scrub near the park buildings at Nakuru National park where shrikes and fiscals seemd very common during my visit.

The camera was hand held at 400mm with the IS on setting II. This is a crop from a slightly larger frame and to move the bird from off centre which was the focussing point used.

I believe this is a Lesser Grey Shrike - Lanius minor - which is quite widespread and common. The typical 'butcher bird' they perch prominently so making them ideal photography subjects, and perch hunt insect, small lizards and sometimes mammals.

Hi Phil, this is a little beauty. I don't see these in NZ, and find it quite striking with the dark black/brown patterns contrasting against the white feathers. It is a little OE, but not too much. Still nice and crisply shown. TFS

What a beautiful shrike, Phil.
