Another postcard from my Antarctic trip in 2007. This time a peaceful moment. Almost complete silence at the sea. I hope you like it

A glacier is a large, slow-moving mass of ice, formed from compacted layers of snow, that slowly deforms and flows in response to gravity and high pressure. The word glacier comes from French via the Vulgar Latin glacia, and ultimately from Latin glacies meaning ice

Glacier ice is the largest reservoir of fresh water on Earth, and second only to oceans as the largest reservoir of total water. Glaciers cover vast areas of polar regions, are found in mountain ranges of every continent, and are restricted to the highest mountains in the tropics.

Glaciers have a tendency to move, or "flow", downhill. While the bulk of a glacier flows in the direction of lower elevation, every point of the glacier can move at a different rate, and in a different direction. The general motion is due to the force of gravity, and the rate of flow at each point on the glacier is affected by many factors.

Czesc Krzysiek!

Hi Krzysztof,

Wow what a beauty

Hi Krzysztof.
If I would not like warm weather, I'd visit Antarctic necessarily :) seeing your amazing postcards. All is wonderful. Impressive land and its mirror reflections in the sea, nice light clouds and blue sky, precise classic composition of the picture and nice note. My kind regards and compliments. Well done.

Hello Krzysztof,
A fine peaceful Antarctic scene, the calm water providing the atmosphere. I like the texture of the exposed cliff face and the blending of the surface structure with snow while the rest is covered by deep snow on either side.
Thanks and greetings from a snowy Scania,
