[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The only alterations made to the photo were cropping and resizing so that the real colour reflected off the water is shown. The water is very clear and colourless but in places reflects an even darker blue. The logs in the foreground are lying on the bottom of the lake.

Update: A valuable explanation by Ivan below is quoted here with appreciation: "Lakes in limestone areas seem to have this bluish colouration, probably because acidic lakes have vegetable detritus that stains them brownish. The limey sandy bottom is clearly seen and gives the swimming pool effect. This is not the reflection of a blue sky, though blue skies accentuate the colour."

I confirm that it is a limestone area so that the water must have neutral pH or be alkaline. On this occasion the sky was very bright but not blue - actually appeared white on photo's (See my earlier upload with title "True Blue" which shows both the white sky and the turquoise water) so it is correct that it is not a reflection of the sky but it is a reflection of the light as it is neither the colour of the water itself, which is colourless, nor that of the bottom of the lake.

Note that accompanied a previous upload is repeated here: Situated in the northwest of Sichuan Province, spectacular Jiuzhaigou, the "Valley of Nine Villages", has been inhabited by Tibetan people for many centuries but was only formally "discovered" by the government in 1972. It is famous for its multilevel lakes and waterfalls, splendid autumn colours and frozen-over landscape in winter. Seven of the nine villages are still populated. Ranging in elevation between 2000 and 4750 masl, the area, 1330 square kilometres in extent, was declared a National Park in 1982, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1992 and a World Biosphere Reserve in 1997. In 2010 it was visited by an estimated 2 million people of which fewer than 50 000 were foreigners.

Hi Neels.Very impressive colors from this lake, magic transparences and a beautiful sensation of peace and quiet.Very well done, have a nice day and thanks,Luciano

Absolutely breathtaking and almost unreal scenery friend Neels! Wonderful! What can be the reason behind that dense color, it just look like a artificial swimming pool!?? Incredible! I presume that the bottom of the lake is covered by white sand or something like that! Bravo Neels , fantastic and unusual landscape with great composition and appearance!
Regards,
George Veltchev

hello Neels,
A fine well composed view of this lake with the water-logged logs in the FG on the bottom and the trees on the far shore giving it perspective.
Lakes in limestone areas seem to have this bluish colouration, probably because acidic lakes have vegetable detritus that stains them brownish. The limey sandy bottom is clearly seen and gives the swimming pool effect. This is not the reflection of a blue sky, though blue skies accentuate the colour.
Thanks and have a good weekend,
Ivan
