This photo is from a couple of weeks ago but I like the POV and appearence of the mantid surprised look. The day I took this photo there were alot of juvenile mantids. Many of them when they saw me, ran hid under leaves and flowers to escape to safety. However, this day I think I joined the 'Paparazzi', because I wasn't going to leave them alone until I got a semi satisfying photo. I chased this little one around for 5 to 10 minutes trying to find the best pov and taking as many photos as possible, (trying to get the money shot, hehe).
The mantids body is a bit bright and a little out of focus but it was a hard photo to take. I had to lay down and position the camera upwards to look throught the veiw find but I got some ok photos but this was the most interesting.

Hi Matt!

Excellent pose and moment! I don't like mantises very much, but I must say this one is really cute :-) Superb colours - greens and yellows made excellent composition. Frame is also great.

Hi Matthew,
Splendid shot of this Mantid in difficult conditions. The look is scary and perfect focus and lighting. Very impressive sharpness and nice colour tones. Excellent POV to capture this peculiar pose. Very nicely composed. Kudos.

Hi Mathew,
A beautiful capture. Excellent details and POV and lighting of this praying mantis (preying). Thanks a lot for sharing.

See his eyes looking right at you! Upside down too!! Very good capture Matt - hard to know what to focus on - the body or head. Still, well done

Hello Matt

Wow! Excellent POV, composition and colors! I always find it difficult to get the eyes of preying mantis in sharp focus simply because they are so far out! Well done

Hi Matthew,
Your POV is great, the pose you captured is so cute. I liked the colors and the composition a lot. TFS
Best wishes,

Hi Matthew.
Wonderful shot, the mantid look is great, right back at you paparazzi.
The slightly out of focus you mentioned is only a minor, digital lack of sharpness as all digital images need sharpening. Your image is sharp where needed and thats the eyes. Did a workshop and it's fine. Wonderful composition, good detail and great content for behaviour at a different angle of view. For using flash this is a nice soft fill in, has not burnt out any detail, well done.

Hi Matthew,
Outstanding pose and pov and really good background.
TFS, José M.

Hi Matt, this is an interesting pose for this one. You have excellent detail captured here with very good light and colour in a beautiful composition. I'd say you got your money shot.

Thanks, John

Artful composition Matt I like it.
Great use of flash to fill, but also creating an interesting light/shadow effect. Very good DOF, detail, colors, POV, and there's eye contact as well..
Very well done.
PS - I've read of your complaints on viewfinder use..I'm looking forward to the "live view" feature for my macro..if I ever get that cam..

Hi Matthew,
A very good capture!
I like so much the POV and the pose caught on the mantis, certainly like a bit "surprised" by your presence.
So good the upwards pose, the lighting and the composition made.
Congratulations and thanks for shae it.
My best regards,

Superbe photo, composition, coueluer, netteté, tout est magnifique.

Hi Matthew
The compo is absolutely great and thanks to the black dots on the eye you even have a great eye-contact (rather unusual in insects).

Hello Matt,
I think mantids are fearful (I don't know why, because I've never seen mantid alive) and beautiful (I don't know why, because I've never seen mantid alive) ;)
Your photo is great.

Hello Matt,
Brilliant capture of this Mantid, not only sharply in focus showing great details but also perfectly following the shape of the flower petals! I like the way he's looking at you too. A very fine composition in lovely colours.
TFS and regards, Ulla

Hehe that is an interesting perspective on a mantis! Beautiful colours on this one.

Hi Matthew.
You have done a great work. I like your numerous attempts to take good pictures. This is right way. Your shot is really amazing. Its subject is simply perfect as well as the POV (you have found after all the best POV) and composition. Lighting and colours are brilliant. Details and sharpness of the main subject are very good too. DOF is shallow a bit for my taste. In such cases I use macro ring flash and apply small aperture value (f/27-f/32). Having long focal macro lens to use macro ring flash is problematic. However, great picture. My compliments and BRAVO.

Hi Matthew,
great shot, this is one of my favorite insect.
Love the POV and the look on its face.
Such rich colors and the sharpness is superb.
Very well composed and very well presented in this complementing frame.

Hello Matthew,

WOW!!! What a paparazzi you are!!! Under so tough circumstances, you did a remarkable job here!!! The look of the mantis larva is astonishing! Excellent POV and great exposition in order to let us see all those green and yellow tones...

Kathleen did a great workshop also by increasing a little bit the sharpness...

Have you tried to turn the picture upside-down??? I think the effect can be very interesting also!

Ciao! and TFS!

Good compo and colours, Matthew, in this "green and yellow yellow" image.
Well done

Una interesante y fabulosa imagen.

Buen BG y muy buena nota.
Un saludo, JL.

Bonjour Matthew
