Interesting points:
1. The lotus seeds are used by Chinese as food. It can be turn into a sweet paste for cakes (including the moon-cake). The seeds are also used in sweet soup to serve as dessert. Note that the tiny green embryo inside the lotus seed is bitter in taste and is usually removed.
2. The lotus leaves serve as wrapping for rice mixed with meat or seafood and when steamed, a special fragrant is imparted to the rice.
3. The lotus roots can be stir-fried or serve as ingredient for Chinese soup together with green peas and pork.
4. You can try these in Chinese restuarants in Hong Kong. |
