Dear all,

this was taken just now. this is my first try of dragonfly. this photo is far from ok - but I am glad I have captured my very first dragonfly this afternoon.

I don't know the name of this dragonfly - apprec if the TN experts could tell me the name of this dragonfly - which certainly holds a very special place in my heart.

I would express my heartfelt thanks to all the photographers here at TN.

All your wonderful photos have inspired and encouraged me to take this very first step - I have been thinking all along that I could only take landscape and flower photos.

And many thanks for all the good mentors at TN who have left me comments and pointers for improvement!! thank you so much!

I look forward to your comments and pointers : ) thanks much!

Have a great Sunday!!

Man Yee

Hello MY
Nice shot of dragonfly for the first try. Deatails of the wings are very clear and the composition is aesthetic too.

Hello Man Yee,
Great first attempt on a dragonfly that I can't ID but it looks like it is related to the Sympetrum genus. You dragonfly is pretty sharp and taken from a fine POV. I find the flower seed head that it is settled on intriguing.
The BG is neutral and helps define the dragonfly but it is a bit noisy.
TFS this beauty and I look forward to more!

You have done very well for your first try, moving subjects are not that easy with close-up and macro work. Well done.
Focus is out slightly on the head of the dragonfly, the focus has seemed to fallen in just behind on the body and wings. Maybe a smaller F/stop could have helped here to bring a bit more into focus.
Nice composition with him perched up there on the plant and lovely soft background to make him stand out.

Hi My,

Well done on taking a further step in photography. I am also thinking of doing this as the images on TN have intrigued me. I am going to a course on flash next week so I will see.

This is a well arranged image with a nice subject but you might need a bit more Dof and need to go to F8 or F11 for that.

Hey hey! Everyone has to have a first...and mine was not much better (*not that this or mine was 'bad')...when compared to all the dragonfly experts...I tend to shy away form them or perhaps better said they tend to stay away from me thus saving me the problem...but now you do have one for your gallery...and it can only get better from here! Very good...

Hello Man Yee!

Not bad first try. Composition and POV are quite good. Sharpness and details are ok. I like crimson colour of dragonfly which, as Ivan wrote, is from Sympetrum genus. Good luck next time, dragonflies are beautifull models!

Hi Man Yee,
Sorry, this is the first time I'm visiting your gallery!I love this shot, more because it's so good, despite being a first!
Very well done!
Keep up the good work!

Hello Man Yee,

There is alois a beggining and your's with the dragonfly is not at all bad. You have chosen a nice POV and an interesting plant beneath the insect. Improving sharpness will bring value to the overall quality of the image.

Thank you for sharing,

Very nice shot... first attempt or not. And there is nothing wrong even if all you could only specialize in was landscapes and flowers... your work is excellent. Well done and am looking forward to seeing more of your beautiful photos.

Hi Man Yee,
Nice first try. I just try this weekend, it's more difficult I will imagine. The wing are in focus... but as the dragonfly is in diagonal, it's difficult to have focus on all the dragonfly.
