Last month I took my deaf students to a sponsored excursion to Sitlakhet, a small hamlet 1829m above sea level. My target was to provide them some basic trainings on rock climbing and rescue operation, beside trekking. During trekking I tried to show them the birds locally found. The students identified at least nine varieties of birds including three pairs of Great Barbets. This Great Barbet, also known as Great Himalayan Barbet is quiet common in Kumaon region of Uttrakhand within the altitude of 1000 to 3000 meter above sea level. During winter occasionally these birds migrated to foothills and preferred to stay in moist temperate forests.
Great Barbet or Megalaima lineata/virens (33cm) is a common breeding resident of northern and Northeastern mountains in India and also occurred in China and South East Asia.

Hi Parthasarathi.
You have pictured a very attractive bird which I have never seen and which I will not ever see too. Its shapes and colouration are amazing as well as a cute expressive pose. I also like tree branch pattern surrounding the bird. My best wishes and kind regards.
P.S. I am very pleased with your interest and visit.
