I shot this Common Moorhen in Gurgaon (Delhi National Capital Region) in the first week of January 2014. Hope you like it.

The Common Moorhen (Gallinula chloropus) (also known as the "swamp chicken" is a bird species in the Rallidae family. It is distributed across many parts of the Old World.

The common moorhen lives around well-vegetated marshes, ponds, canals and other wetlands. The species is not found in the polar regions or many tropical rainforests. Elsewhere it is likely the most common rail species, except for the Eurasian coot in some regions.

The closely related common gallinule of the New World has been recognized as a separate species by most authorities, starting with the American Ornithologists' Union and the International Ornithological Committee in 2011.

Hello Ram,
A nice view of this beautiful Moorhen, you don't often see one of these water birds totally in the open like this. We get to see it's olive greenish yellow legs perfectly as well as it's body features which normally are partially hidden by water or plants.
I have never seen this particular species, but I have seen a distant relative the Common Gallinule. I only got a quick glimpse while down in Costa Rica and therefore never got a shot off. TFS

hallo Ram
yhis is so beautiful
i like this composition and the beautiful colours
thanks gr lou

Ram,
Even the details on its feet are quite discernible. GREAT FOCUSING job.
Our Canadian coot is not as impressive as this one.
These birds are quite secretive; it's not easily seen by a photographer; I know it 'cause I've tried following them in-between the marshy reeds ... could never get a clear register as you have done. EYE CONTACT and all.
CONGRATULATIONS.
Regards from a COLD COLD land, Canada, but the most peaceful place on earth,
Mario

Hello Ram,
Nice photo of this Common Moorhen in good sharpness and details. But I've never seen it with a blue chest. Is this the real colour of this Moorhen? The rest of the photo looks natural. Fine composition.
Regards,
Peter
