Blue Whistling Thrush
 |
|
[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
My students and I were trekking in Dhauladhar Himalayas recently and were staying in a village at an altitude of about 5000 plus ft. There were quite a few Himalayan birds in view including this Blue Whistling Thrush which I shot on the last day of our trek behind the rest house we were staying in. It has just dug out some insect from the earth.
The blue whistling thrush (Myophonus caeruleus) is a whistling thrush present in the mountains of Central Asia, China and Southeast Asia. It is known for its loud human-like whistling song at dawn and dusk. The widely distributed populations show variations in size and plumage with several of them considered as subspecies. Like others in the genus, they feed on the ground, often along streams and in damp places foraging for snails, crabs, fruits and insects.

Hello Ram,
A new bird for me and an interesting shot of it with its dinner. Nice focus on the bird and well saturated colors. It appears to be too occupied with the insect to pay any attention to you. TFS.
Ron
Hello Sir,
A nice picture of the Blue Whistling thrush with either its breakfast or lunch. I have seen these thrushes in abundance but never had the luck to capture it in my camera. The blue color of the thrush is so evident in the light as this bird looks black from a distance. It would have been nice had the thrush turned its head with the insect in its beak. The head seemed a bit out of focus, maybe a higher shutter speed would have helped.
Looking forward to more from your trek to Kareri Lake.
Warm Regards,
Satirtha
