Friends, I bought a new point-and-shoot camera yesterday.
It is a Canon and today I tried it in the garden of my son's residential complex here in Delhi. (I'm on a short vacation these days.)
After having used a DSLR for quite some time, I have lost touch with small cameras. Moreover, there was hardly anything available in the garden to shoot except the Female Scarlet Skimmer. It looks like I am the favourite of this dragonfly; rain or sunshine, winter or summer -- this species always finds me out. Today too, it made a dash at me and then settled on a garden plant. It stayed there long enough to give me time to figure out how to take a macro of it with my new camera. The LCD screen of a point-and-shoot goes almost blank in the sunshine and I had a tough time trying to decide whether I was focusing on the subject or on a leaf looking like a dragonfly. Eventually I took three shots and, luckily, two out of them turned out to be that of this dragonfly; the third one showed a dry leaf in perfect focus. :)
It will take me some time to choose the manual mode of this camera. Today I shot in Auto mode only.

I have posted so many picture of a Female Scarlet Skimmer most of my TN friends now try to avoid me for fear of seeing another FEMALE SCARLET SKIMMER!

So if you stop by to look at yet another FSS, please do so at your own risk. :)

greeting lou

Hello Ram,

what an razor sharp picture with good pov and blurred bg.
fine colours.

Gert

Good capture Ram and despite your modesty demonstrated in such detail I think that the result is obvious! Fine shot with decent clarity, brightness and dept of field. Certainly this quality can not be compared with your DSLR, but is good enough and create a smile! Unfortunately we can see the Female Scarlet Skimmer behind from this angle mostly, but even so, I think that this a successful presentation! Thanks for sharing and have a lovely evening my friend!

George Veltchev

Hello Ram,
Excellent photo of this skimmer in good sharpness and details. The golden colours of the skimmer as well as the blurred natural colours in the BG are fantastic. Great DOF and diagonal composition.

Bonjour Ram,
The result for a first shooting with a new camera is obviously good! And a lovely story how you always come across the Scarlet Skimmer which is a most beautiful insect with its golden color. Must be a good sign!
I wish you a nice weekend
Kind regards
Anne

Hello Ram,
what a lovely capture of this female skimmer. Sharpness is stunning and the details are so lively. Your diagonal composition gives an extra impact to the view.
I like the blurry background that pushes the subject into an effective scenery.

Regards,
Foozi
