Hi dear friends,

Thank you so much for the wonderful response you gave me for my last posting.
It encourgaes me to push my P& S camera's capabilities to the furthest possible extent.

This was a capture again during my trip to Kerala.Grasshoppers are normally found in areas with grasses, small "vacant" lots and gardens etc. And this i found in the backyard of the house whcih was not quiet frquented by anyone.

In Delhi it is difficult to find insects and small creatures especially with the kind of dry weather the city has.But we have had some great rainy weather recently that our campus grounds have been humming with activity.I hope to bring to you some captures from these days as well ....some time soon.

So here is presenting the Grasshopper and some trivia:

#There are 18,000 kinds of grasshoppers in the world.
#The grasshopper can live in all kinds of habitats.
#The colors of the grasshopper warn birds not to eat them.
#Grasshoppers hatch in May or June.
#The longest grasshopper is eleven cm long.
#Grasshoppers are herbivores.
#Grasshoppers go through incomplete metamorphosis.
#Grasshoppers have no ears. They hear with an organ called tympanum.
#Most types of grasshoppers have two pairs of wings.
#Grasshoppers have five eyes.
#When the female lays her eggs, she covers them with a paste-like liquid that will protect them during the winter.
#Nymphs grow for 40 to 60 days before they become adults.
#Some grasshoppers rub their wings together to create music, others snap their wings together while flying, and others just rub their hind legs across their front wings.
Thanks for looking in...

Hello Silpa,
Superb sharp and beautiful macro of a grasshopper nymph (the short undeveloped wings indicate that this is not mature) that makes good use of the low lighting.
The colours, POV and composition are excellent, all of which make this a delight to see!
TFS this beauty!

BTW, my TN name has to do with eyes - I would like many like the greek god Argos, the scientific name of which is used in a species of butterfly that has many small eye-like markings on the hindwings.

Hi Silpa,
A lovely capture of this beautiful grasshopper. Excellent composition and sharp details. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Hi Silpa, this has got to be one of the best looking grasshoppers I've seen. Most that I see are a dirty brown or green colour. This guy is bright with great colour, well captured on your part. The detail seen here is very good with very good depth of field to show us the grasshopper well in it's entirety.

Thanks, John

Tall, handsome and very green, Iris :-).
Excellent capture of this Grasshopper clinging to something that contrasts well with the subject in colour.
Very sharp focus and fine details on the body.
Well done and TFS.

Hello Iris,
Your kind critique made me look at your very cheerful gallery. I'm a great amateur of grasshopper and insects in general and so your latest picture gives me the opportunity to make a little visit. It is truely an impressive hopper and a funny one with all these blacks spots and it is well photographed by you.
It is quite difficult to find out the ID of grasshoppers, also here in my country.
Thanks a lot and best regards

Hello Iris

The colour of this hopper is outstanding.
Lovely rich green tones.
Sharp focus with excellent details.
The pov and dof is very good.

Hello Iris,
I like to watch species of insects which are not known for me before :) And this is one of them. Lovely colours of this grasshopper's larva, I especially like its camouflage character :)
TFS and best greetings from Poland!

PS. Thank you very much for marking my picture with Hyla arborea as your favourite photo :):):)

Hi Iris

A splendid and impeccably sharp macro from you!
I've noticed that your close-ups all benefit from an excellent sharpness and attention to details but i've picked this one because of another very important quality: the bokeh in the BG (nicely blurred).
The texture and colors on this grasshopper are simply lovely and they contrast so beautifuly with the BG.
Very nice veryical composition and good lighting, too.

Bravo and TFS

Hi Irishues.
I like selected for shooting subject. Broken stem and amazing grasshoppers create a wonderful composition. Quality of the shot is great. I like superb reproduction of all details of fine main subject (stem and insect). You managed to get perfectly smoothed and nicely coloured BG. As a result image has impressive 3D-effect. Bravo. Well done. TFS and best wishes.

hello Silpa
this is also a beautiful picture
great sharpness and nice colours
