[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Blue Mormon larva taking position to pupate on a Citrus plant.it is amazing how they manage themselves to tied with, by means of a pair of silk thread over the shoulder!!! On 5th Nov 2010 morning it was fully grown larva as in my previous photo . The whole day time and early night hours it remained in the bend position fastened with silk. During some nigh hours it moulted finally to pupa(will be shown next time).{my own observation}
When the caterpillar is fully grown, it makes a button of silk which it uses to fasten its body to a leaf or a twig. Then the caterpillar's skin comes off for the final time. Under this old skin is a hard skin called a chrysalis

It is important to differentiate between pupa, chrysalis and cocoon. The pupa is the stage between the larva and adult stages. The chrysalis is a butterfly pupa. A cocoon is a silk case that moths, and sometimes other insects, spin around the pupa.{wili}

Family : Papilionidae.
Sci. Name : Papilio polymnestor.
