The Indian grey mongoose or common grey mongoose (Herpestes edwardsii) is a species of mongoose mainly found in southern Asia. It is commonly found in open forests, scrublands and cultivated fields, often close to human habitation. It lives in burrows, hedgerows and thickets, among groves of trees, taking shelter under rocks or bushes and even in drains. It is very bold and inquisitive but wary, seldom venturing far from cover. It preys on rodents, snakes, birdsí eggs and hatchlings, lizards and variety of invertebrates.

This picture was taken in our backyard where I happen to come across it by chance. At first it was weary of my presence, but after sometime, it decided to overcome its fear and venture over the hedge.

Thank you for watching.

Hello Smitha,
Excellent image of this fine looking Mongoose. The focus is very sharp revealing much detail. Colors are natural and well saturated. I love the textured look of it's fur, it appears to be very dense and has a wool-like appearance. Great eye contact and just the right exposure. Well done!!

Well shot.what a compo...RGDS
