On the last day of my recent visit to Goa, we were all packed for our return journey to New Delhi and waiting for the taxi to arrive at the resort and take us to the airport. Since my camera was out, I took a quick detour of the garden and saw a number of bees busy on the little pink flowers in the mild morning sunshine. I took a few macros with my 105mm and here is one of them.
I have no clear idea about the ID of this Bee. It looks like an ordinary Honey Bee to me, so without actually doing much research, I am producing below a note on Honey Bees from Wikipedia:

Honey bees (or honeybees) are a subset of bees, primarily distinguished by the production and storage of honey and the construction of perennial, colonial nests out of wax. Honey bees are the only extant members of the tribe Apini, all in the genus Apis. Currently, there are only seven recognized species of honey bee with a total of 44 subspecies (Engel, 1999) though historically, anywhere from six to eleven species have been recognized. Honey bees represent only a small fraction of the approximately 20,000 known species of bees. Some other types of related bees produce and store honey, but only members of the genus Apis are true honey bees.

Thanks for stopping by.

Hi Ram,

A stunning composition, wonderful colours and light, excellent detail, just beautiful, t.f.s

Cheers Rick :)

Hi Ram!

You present us a beautiful picture of a well known insect. The soft lighting, the composition with the delicate flower and the position or rather the action of the bee make it an outstanding one. I also like the short, yet instructive notes.

Kind regards

A ready-for-action camera is great to have when one is waiting for transport Ram.
This capture of a bee was an opportunity well taken as it buries its proboscis in the pink flower. The details are clearly seen from a fine POV. Though I think it looks like another species, it looks like a close relative of the Honey Bee.
Thanks for sharing this fine image,
Best wishes,

Hello Ram,
Very beautiful photo in splendid colours and the light just on the right place. Great sharpness and a perfect composition.

I have sold my Nikon Ram so you and images such as these will have to hold down the fort. Unable to buy into the D3, I opted to go high tech video whilst retaining my Leica still. The Leica could do some nice work with an image such as this, but the Nikon in your hands has a certain signature of blending in colour and depth...definitely a Ram picture...

Hi Ram,
I liked the presentation, colors and exposure, and if i may, I'll say the the focus is fixed more on the leaf in front and the DOF could have been more:-). This is just plain nit picking and no way it degrades this beautiful pic :-)

Sir, beautiful closeup and lovely. But i think the sharpness is slightly missing here frm your normal. The view is superb. Ganesh
