14cm. Bright blue upperparts, chestnut crown, white spots on the tail, white underparts, darker flight feathers, blue mask through the eye, very long filamentous outermost tail feathers, which trail behind like two wires. Sexes are similar, but the female has shorter "wires". Juveniles have a brown crown, back and tail.
Open country near water and human habitation.
The diet includes insects, especially flies.

They build half-bowl nests, lined with mud collected in the swallows' beaks, placed on vertical surfaces near water, under cliff ledges or more commonly on man-made structures such as buildings and bridges. 3-4 eggs are laid.

Hello Rakesh,

Its such a beauty! And the credit indeed goes to the photographer which makes it look so great - a very nice though unusual composition, bright colors and a near perfect background. It's simply amazing Rakesh. Great sharpness.

Beautiful blue, I like the color very much. Apart from that very pretty bird with good pose, so elegant here against the lovely background. The highlights of the perch could be reduced, its taking bit of attention. This image will look better in 16:9 aspect ratio, just try (like my blue grass dartlet). tfs.

It is stunning to the end of swallow's fading tail. The colours
are gorgeous and the composition just there. You more than justify your gear Rakesh.
Looking forward to many more great postings from you

Hello Rakesh,
Exactly ten years ago I photographed this swallow in Malawi. But the result was a bad slide. Now I'm very happy to see a superb photo of this species. The clarity is in this photo is amazing again. The isolation of the swallow from the beautiful OOF BG is wonderful. Amazing sharpness and details. Great composition and POV.

Hello Rakesh,
what a wonderful picture of the Wire Tailed Swallow taken with outstanding sharpness and splendid colours in a great pose, excellent POV showing the beautiful peculiarities of this bird, very pleasing composition with a very good neutral BG.
Best regards

Greetings Rakesh
