For my friends living in the colder regions of the world, here is a heart-warming picture of a Common Rose butterfly I shot in Ajmer, Rajasthan, this September.
I thought this was a little innovative POV on my part and I even tried making a larger version with heavy cropping including that of the outstretched wings. However, I could not reconcile to chopping off the wings of this large and elegant butterfly and finally settled for a full version even though the eyes looked larger and better in a bigger close-up.

The Common Rose (Atrophaneura (Pachliopta) aristolochiae) is a swallowtail butterfly belonging to the Pachliopta subgenus, the Roses, of the genus Atrophaneura or Red-bodied Swallowtails. It is a common butterfly which is extensively distributed across South and South East Asia.

It is widely distributed in Asia. Afghanistan, Pakistan, India(includes Andaman islands) , Nepal, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Thailand, Japan (south-western Okinawa only), Laos, Vietnam, Kampuchea(now Cambodia), Nicobar islands, peninsular and eastern Malaysia, Brunei, Philippines (Palawan and Leyte), Indonesia and Taiwan.
In China, it is distributed in southern and eastern China (including Hainan, Guangdong province), and Hong Kong. In Indonesia, it is distributed in Sumatra, Nias, Enggano, Bangka, Java, Bali, Kangean, Lombok, Sumbawa, Sumba, Flores, Tanahjampea and Kalimantan.

Full marks for an original POV Ram!
And yet from this frontal POV we can see that it is a Common Rose butterfly taken with fine sharpness and lighting against a pleasing OOF natural BG. I like the composition on the pink flower too.
Thanks for sharing this delight,
All the best,

A fine capture indeed from a unique viewpoint Ram, the frontal aspect shows the feeding proboscis clearly in this expertly focused and exposed image. Really would like to see the cropped image also for the eyes...

Hi Ram!

Indeed, the point of view is particular and welcome. It's fine to see this butterfly from another position and from another angle. The slightly blurred wingtips point out the movement of the wings and this creates a pleasant dynamic effect.

Kind regards

Hello Ram,

What an interesting composition has your photo! The POV you have chosen shows the butterfly from an interesting perspective. Wings are transformed from surfaces to nearly lines so viewer atention concentrate on insect's head and body. These are well shown as the inage was well focused on them. Colors of insect's body are strong making a fine contrast with those of the flower and background.

Thank you for sharing,

Hello Ram,
The combination of contrasting colours in this photo are amazingly beautiful. The OOF BG is perfect. Very original frontal POV in excellent sharpness. Superb DOF and composition.

Hello Ram,
I can see how a really close crop just around the body and legs would look very effective from this POV.
This is a nice composition as it is though,so thats ok too.
Nice work.
