GAUR OR INDIAN BISON(Baus gaurus)

Essentially a hill animal, these wild oxen are found almost through out the forests of India especially in the Western Ghat. The bull may stand 195cm (6ft 4in) at the shoulders and an old bull may weigh over 900kg.With huge head, deep muscular body and sturdy limbs, the Gaur is the embodiment of strength. They move in herds. Though normally timid, single bulls are dangerous and may attack eithout provocation.
This photograph was taken at wAYANAD Wildlife Sanctuary in Kerala,India.
