The Damselfly (Suborder Zygoptera) is an insect in the Order Odonata. Damselflies are similar to dragonflies, but the adults can be differentiated by the fact that the wings of most damselflies are held along the body when at rest. Furthermore, the hindwing of the damselfly is essentially similar to the forewing, while the hindwing of the dragonfly broadens near the base, caudal to the connecting point at the body. Damselflies are also usually smaller, weaker fliers than dragonflies, and their eyes are separated.

This is a Coromandel Marsh Dart catching its kill. I was infact beating around the grasses trying to take shots of this small fly. I could manage a few unsatisfactory shots and as I set about for another take it was suddenly and swiftly picked up by this damselfly. I was amazed at their skill as it caught it by the stomach, the soft part, and pierced into it with their sharp teeth. A split of second......and it was all over, in front of my eyes. I was only left with this shot.

Difficult light conditions, soggy environment and mosquitoes swarming around. Hand held shot lying flat on the ground (I have an anuual contract with the local laundry man).

Scientific classification -
Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Arthropoda
Class: Insecta
Order: Odonata
Suborder: Zygoptera (Selys, 1854)

Another wonderful shot Sumon.
This damselfly is a new one to me,and the fact that it has prey is a real bonus.
The green is beautiful, especially as it is on the blade of grass.
The detail is exquisite.
An excellent job.
Well done.
Steve

This is a pure action shot, Sumon, unpremeditated and sudden. No wonder you didn't have enough time to get the entire damselfly within the frame!
Events such as this one make a wonderful video footage provided we are prepared for that mode. But then we can share only pictures here on TN.
The image is technically excellent with light playing a vital role in it.
I like your "annual contract" with the local laundryman! Every avid nature photographer needs one, I believe!
Regards.
