First believe me this is not a bunch of dead leaves. The only reason for you to believe that this is a moth is the set of legs that are holding on to the blade of grass. We found this under dramatic conditions. When we found it it was struggling for life and was trying to escape the sting of a spider and indeed it was successful. All its deceitful looks would not fool the spider.

After the escape it was taking a long rest and that is when I got this picture. The eye is nothing but a bulge in the fur. The moth's antennae are folded close to the eyes. And I do not know what part is looking like the stem of the dead leaf. We would have never spotted this but for the spider.

Hope you like meeting my leafy friend.

Hello Murali,
really a great capture of this well camouflaged moth. We have similar looking species in Europe such as Gastropacha quercifolia of the family Lasiocampidae. Beautiful light, excellent sharpness and nice composition.
Best wishes, Peter

Hello Murali,
Awesome display of an animal that demonstrates it cryptic colors and mimicry. Your entire shot is well executed showing excellent control of the lighting scenario. :)

Hi Murali,
You have caught natures camouflage at its best. Wonderful shot, the sharpness and lighting is great. TFS

Much interesting moth. I'm not sure if there was any of that one on TN. Would be interesting to know the latin name.
Technically perfect shot, with a beautiful light effect.
I added your pic to the "camouflage"

Hi Murali

What a spectacular creature! A true master of camouflage, indeed!
You did terrific in capturing this wonderful insect and you did great to choose this POV in which the legs are visible...otherwise a difference from a true bunch of leaves would have been very difficult :))
The details are great - very clear and sharp and the DOF is wonderful, creating a lovely bokeh in the BG.
The diagonal composition also works like a charm here.
Overall: a splendid shot!

Bravo and TFS

TFS, José M.

Dear Murali, Fantastic shot. Congratulations. Excellent composition and background. Outstanding details. with best regards.vab.

This is Fantastic!! This is the first time I am coming across such a marvelous creation of nature. Such a beautiful camouflage, I can't believe it. I really thought it was a bunch of dried leaves, covering some caterpillar. But when I read your notes and took a close look i couldn't believe my eyes.
You have captured this moth with excellent POV, sharpness and details.Good lighting and excellent blurred background that really helps the moth to stand out in the frame.

Namaste Murali. Incredible world we live in. All the more pity at the rate at which we are destroying it and all the sources of wonder, mystery and beauty- like your insect here. Well caught, excellent details. Regards. Klaudio.
