A dragonfly is an insect belonging to the order Odonata, the suborder Epiprocta or, in the strict sense, the infraorder Anisoptera. It is characterized by large multifaceted eyes, two pairs of strong transparent wings, and an elongated body.

Dragonflies typically eat mosquitoes, midges and other small insects like flies, bees, and butterflies. They are usually found around lakes, ponds, streams, and wetlands because their larvae, known as "nymphs", are aquatic. Dragonflies do not normally bite or sting humans (though they will bite in order to escape, if grasped by the abdomen); in fact, they are valued as a predator that helps control the populations of harmful insects, such as mosquitoes. It is because of this that dragonflies are sometimes called "mosquito hawks" in North America, along with crane flies (which, in fact, do not eat mosquitoes).

Hello Pankaj,
what a striking image of this dragonfly.
+++ The POV is just superb, with it head-on and the face looking straight at us... excellent eye-contact. Perfect composition with the head in the middle and the wings diagonally across the shot. Very sharp with excellent detail. Outstanding DOF aswell. Great lighting, colours and a good BG.
--- Nothing at all :)

A smiling dragon in the green room as one network likes to call it. Very interesting mixed pose of color and smiley face. One of your more creative pictures. Also right up to par on your technique.

Hello Pankaj, perfect macro shot, I like so much his smile, great focus and excellent deeph of field, very nice composition,
well done,

Great straight on pov! Excellent sharpness, good angle, great composition. A very interesting shot!

Hello Pankaj,
You have given the Latin name of this species but have written a general note on the dragonflies. Was the information on it scanty on the net? I intend to research it for myself.

It is a wonderful capture from the frontal perspective. The eyes have turned out very sharp. I too shot a red dragonfly from this perspective and would post it some day.
TFS and regards.

bonjour pankaj
un bonne vue de face de cette libellule,le choix de reglage est bon ce qui donne un beau resultat.
l'exposition du blanc sur le BG est ideal et l'insecte est net.

Hello Pankay,
delightful presentation of this fragile beauty from a creatively chosen strictly frontal point of view.
I like the smooth transitions of colours, the gentle softness of vegetation, the artistically well balanced composition.
With thanks, and best regards,

Hello Pankaj,
A delicate capture with few but attractive colours!
Super details in the subject, impeccable sharpness...
The full frontal point of view is unusual and works well here!

Hi Pankaj.
This year I did not manage to take even one dragonfly shot. There are not these insects in out region this summer. You are luckier. You managed to create a wonderful shot with surprising POV and scenery. I am amazed with exposure parameters, DOF and use of all your excellent equipment. Bravo. The head, wings, legs of the butterfly are reflected with huge details. Colours are clear and nice. BG is wonderfully blurred. My compliments and TFS.

Hi Pankaj,

I like a lot this frontal POV. Excellent sharpness, as usual for you beautiful image.

Well done!

Hello Pankaj.
