Presented here are two copulating fleshflies. Flies of the Diptera family Sarcophagidae (from the Greek sarco- = corpse, phage = eating; the same roots as the word "sarcophagus") are commonly known as flesh flies. Most flesh flies breed in carrion, dung, or decaying material, but a few species lay their eggs in the open wounds of mammals;[1] hence their common name. Some flesh fly larvae are internal parasites of other insects. These larvae, commonly known as maggots, live for about 5-10 days, before descending into the soil and maturing into adulthood. At that stage, they live for 5-7 days.

Flesh-flies can carry leprosy bacilli and can transmit intestinal pseudomyiasis to people who eat the flesh-fly larvae. Flesh-flies can also cause myiasis in animals, mostly to sheep, and can give them blood poisoning, or asymptomatic leprosy infections.

Flesh-fly maggots occasionally eat other larvae although this is usually because the other larvae are smaller and get in the way. They also eat the larvae of grasshoppers and also eat beetles, snails, and caterpillars, especially the forest tent caterpillar. This habit can be useful for biological control. Flesh-flies and their larvae are also known to eat decaying vegetable matter and excrement and they may be found around compost piles and pit latrines.

Flesh-flies frequently give birth to live young on corpses of human and other animals, at any stage of decomposition from newly dead through to bloated or decaying (though the latter is more common).

Hi Mana,
Good macro!

Excellent detailed macro work, well taken and TFS.

The arrangement of the bodies of these two mating Flesh Flies has something artistic about it -- like in sculpture -- Sumon.
That rope like thing under them adds another fine dimension to the composition.
Well done and TFS.

Hi Sumon

Great capture of these two mating flies. Impressive sharpness and excellent composition.

Excellent shot of these mating Flesh-flies Sumon!
Very good DOF and BG.
Sharp with immense detail.
I love the composition.
The twisted rope is a bonus!

Hi Sumon
Today is a fly day ;_) Great shot in a special moment ;-) Great DOF and sharpness As always nothing to critique

Hello Sumon,

Very sharp picture of this couple of flies. Good composition. Excellent POV and exposure. Beautiful colours.

Hi Sumon,
This is very close and detailed! Your notes are interesting and yes, those insects are usuefull :) Thanks,

Sumon! Good to see you again...busy fellow yes? This is a nice re-intro! The focus is so finely done on the subjects and the background so so light that it almost isn't there at all...as if the flies were suspended in time...and if they had feelings and emotions instead of just instincts, perhaps they too would have felt suspended in this moment!

Hi Sumon,

Even these two mating flies look as if you have positioned them! You are truly a magician. Fantastic macro with unbelievably fine details and wonderful colors. I'm not sure if that is a stem or a rope that they are on but it adds to the excellent composition of this shot.

Hello Sumon,
Excellent macro with an excellent timing. Amazing details. Very good colours, POV and composition.

Hola Sumon, buen encuadre y diríamos que romántica escena ya que a pesar de ser moscas, yo creo que tienen una gran belleza. Buen enfoque y luz, con el contraste de los ojos y la cuerda que avivan la escena.

Hi Sumon

Superb shot demonstrating your mastery of close-up photography.

A super macro-shot Sumon, the lateral POV was perfect for capturing so much detail on both flies in fine focus and the shallow DOF left the BG in a fuzzy state. TFS my friend, but a small point on your notes, as far as I know, sarco- means flesh, not corpse...and according to an old belief a "sarcophagus" eats the flesh from a corpse and leaves the bones behind.

Hi Sumon

Another excellent macro from you!
Great pose and moment captured here from also an exceptional side POV to show these two flies in a delicate moment :)
The details and textures are very well rendered here while the natural light reflects from their metallic "skin" giving an extra set of attraction to the image.
Very well done!

Bravo and TFS

Hi Sumon,
excellent work my friend, your clarity and details are second to none as always. Really like this setting here of them both balanced on this wire or twine.
Your notes however are fascinating, if not a little gruesome ;o)

Hello Mana,
Superb macro-work. And also very interesting. Looking at your picture we can see something special. It seems that they "hold hands"! Beside that there rather disgusting little creatures, but they are necessary for the food chain.
Thanks a lot and best regards
