Petria volubilis.
Sysnonym: Petrea kohautiana.
Common names: Purple Wreath, Queen's Wreath, Sandpaper Vine, Blue Bird Vine.
Plant: 9-12m. Woody vine.
Leaves: 5-20cm long, 2.5-10cm wide. Opposite, firmly membranous, dull green above, bright green beneath, rough to touch.
Flower: Drooping many flowered raceme. An interesting ornamental trait of the plant is that, while the tubular flowers last only a few days, the showy purple calyces remain. They fade to blue then finally to pale gray.
Native of tropical America, now common throughout the tropics.

International Nurses Day (IND).
IND is celebrated around the world every May 12, the anniversary of Florence Nightingale's birth. Florence Nightingale, (12 May 1820 – 13 August 1910), who came to be known as "The Lady with the Lamp", was a pioneer of modern nursing, a writer and a noted statistician.
The theme of 2008 IND is, Delivering Quality, Serving Communities: Nurses Leading Primary Health Care.

This picture is particularly dedicated to my daughter Sneha and her friends Gayathri, Soumya, Preeti, and many others, who are striving to keep the Lamp lighted.

Hello Nirmal,
Very fine purple flowers to me unknown. I suppose that they grow now also in the wild in India , being native from tropical America. Interesting note also. Thanks a lot.
