Murraya koenigii.
Synonyms: Bergera koenigii, Chalcas koenigii.
Common names: Curry Tree, Curry-leaf Tree.
Plant: 4-6m tall. Small tree.
Leaves: Pinnate, with 11-21 leaflets, each leaflet 2-4cm long and 1-2cm broad.
Flower: Small white, and fragrant.
Fruit: The small black, shiny berries are edible, but their seeds are poisonous.
A tropical to sub-tropical tree in the family Rutaceae, which is native to India.
The species name commemorates the botanist Johann Gerhard Koenig.
They are commonly used as seasoning in Indian and Sri Lankan cooking, much like bay leaves and especially in curries with fish or coconut milk. In their fresh form, they have a short shelf life though they may be stored in a freezer for quite some time. They are also available dried, though the aroma is inferior.
Various biological activities of Murraya koenigii include antidiabetic, antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, hepatoprotective, anti-hypercholesterolemic etc.
Volatile oil is used as a fixative for soap perfume. The leaves, bark and root of the plant are used in the indigenous medicine as a tonic, stimulant, carminative and stomachic.

Hi Nirmal,
Wonderful shot of these flowers of the curry-leaf tree. Very tiny but beautiful. These are great butterfly attractions and you often find mormons and black crows hovering around them. Excellent POV and composition. Kudos.

hello Nirmal,
Beautiful fine flowers, which made me look up in the dictionary who was this Gerhard Koenig! I never heard about him, but it seems that he was quite well known in his time. I always like combination of green and white.
