[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Hi all,

This is my first pic ever and I shot this at Bannerghatta butterfly park when I visited there with Satish,Arun,Goutham, Vinay and Mukundh. This is Papilio polytes (Common Mormon), which is is a common species of swallowtail butterfly widely distributed across Asia. This butterfly is known for the mimicry displayed by the numerous forms of its females which mimic inedible Red-bodied Swallowtails, such as the Common Rose and the Crimson Rose.

I dedicate this picture to Satish H, who trained me on photography last week.

Hi Anil,
Welcome to TN and with a guide like Satish, who is a guru to most of us in bangalore, I'm Sure you will post many such good pictures. What i liked about this picture is the placement of the subject in the frame , which is slightly off center.
One piece of advice is to watch out for DOF to make sure your entire subject is within DOF.

Welcome to TN. I am sure that with people like Satish and Goutham around you to learn from, you would grow from strength to strength as a nature photographer.
In this picture, the features and colours of both the male and the female Mormon are well captured. The focus is sharp and the colours are pleasant to look at.

In this picture, for a first timer, you have good composition, a little more cropping on top would have been better. Still getting a mating picture, is one should be lucky. TFS, and thanks again.

It is interesting to see the different patterns that the 2 sexes have.
Thank you, and I now realise why I have had trouble naming some of the Common Mormons at our Butterfly House.
