Hi all,

I'm back in India and grabbed this opportunity to shoot some birds here with my mentor H Satish. What I present here is Common Kestrel (Falco tinnunculus) juvenile, which is my first kestrel picture. This was taken from the car which was very carefully maneuvered by Satish.

The Common Kestrel (Falco tinnunculus) is a bird of prey species belonging to the kestrel group of the falcon family Falconidae. It is also known as the European Kestrel, Eurasian Kestrel, or Old World Kestrel. In Britain, where no other brown falcon occurs, it is generally just called "the Kestrel".

This species occurs over a large range. It is widespread in Europe, Asia, and Africa, as well as occasionally reaching the east coast of North America. The Common Kestrel is small compared with other birds of prey, but larger than most songbirds. Kestrels have long wings as well as a distinctive long tail like the other Falco species. This bird's plumage is mainly brown with dark spots. Unlike most hawks they display sexual colour dimorphism with the male having a blue-grey head and tail. The tail is brown with black bars in females, and has a black tip with a narrow white rim in both sexes. All Common Kestrels sexes have a prominent black malar stripe like their closest relatives.

I looked at Ivan's Kestrel picture he took in Spain recently, Goutham, and when I looked at yours, I noticed that Kestrels are almost alike in many ways.
Your specimen looks neat and handsome.
I know your favourite camera settings. I have tried to emulate them but have ended up with bad pictures. Do you use a tripod generally with these settings?
And welcome back to India. Must be feeling better weather-wise.
Regards.

Hallo Goutham
What a wonderful photo. How beautiful is this Kestrel and how perfectly you captured it. The colourful and bright details are truly impressive and the shades of colours and patterns of his plumage are outstanding. The framing and composition are delightful. To me the big black eye with its yellow circle around it is a big attraction. Love the thorny branches. Thank you very much for sharing.
Regards
Anna

very nice crestel ! the colors are so natural and harmonic with the bg. nice composition and very sharp.tfs.

A beautifully executed low capture of a finely formed predator in great detail Goutham, the perfectly OOF BG emphasises the pattern and colouration characteristics of the bird nicely. TFS indeed!
