The Common Tiger (Danaus genutia) is one of the common butterflies of India. It belongs to the "Crows and Tigers", that is, the danainae group of the Brush-footed butterflies family. The butterfly is also called Striped Tiger in India to differentiate it from the equally common Plain Tiger Danaus chrysippus.

The wingspan is 75 to 95 mm. Both sexes of the butterfly have tawny wings with veins marked with broad black bands. The female has a pouch on the hindwing. The margins of the wings are black with two rows of white spots.

The underside of the wings resembles the upperside but is paler in colouration. The male Common Tiger has a prominent black-and-white spot on the underside of the hindwing.

Hello Sowmya,

Well composed and good color tone!
I like this rich color tone as well as color combination between beautiful butterfly, red flower and yellow ones. And, I think that the color of the background gives whole settling down.

mikio

hello sowmya,

i think i am visiting your gallery for the first time, i am glad to see this lovely shot of the butterfly which i like very much. I feel that the post is of plain tiger and not striped tiger as mentioned by you ,The plain tiger has been a popular butterfly at treknature.

The image is sharp with good details and the colours look beautiful, the pov is ideal. i feel that the composition could have been a better by giving some more space and not keeping the insect in the centre.

a fine capture overall, i am looking forward to see more butterflies from you.

tfs & regards
pankaj

A fine capture from a good POV, in adequate DOF and focus Sowmya, which resulted in a nice composition.
TFS and cheers,
Mehmet
