Hi All,

I took this photograph in my society garden.

Some information about House Sparrow:

Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Chordata
Class: Aves (Birds)
Order: Passeriformes
Family: Passeridae

House Sparrow (Passer domesticus) is a widespread resident in India.

Size: 15 cm

Identification:

Small, seed-eating passerine bird with thick, conical bill and pink legs.

Adult male:
Gray crown, black throat, upper breast, and small mask; less black on throat in winter. Grayish side of neck and underparts. Rusty-brown nape and upperparts. Black streaks on back. White patch in wing. Gray rump. Black bill in summer; yellowish in winter.

Female and immature:
Gray-brown crown. Buffy line extends rearward from eye bordered below by gray-brown line. Grayish-white underparts. Black and tawny streaks on back. Black wing feathers with wide tawny edges. White patch on wing. Yellow bill. Immature males lack full throat patch of adults.

Similar species: The adult male House Sparrow might be confused with Eurasian Tree Sparrow. The Eurasian Tree Sparrow has a black spot on the ear coverts and an entirely brown crown. The female House Sparrow looks somewhat similar to a number of species of sparrows but has unstreaked underparts, tawny streaks on the back, and a large yellowish bill.

Thanks in advance for comments.

In the last two and a half years, I notice that you have posted only nine pictures, Chetan. However, those pictures are so good you ought to have been more active here. Are you on some other picture sharing website?
Anyway, this is a good picture of a female House Sparrow, though some branch in the foreground could have been avoided for an unobstructed image.
The subject is in sharp focus and the colours are natural.
Thanks and all the best.
Ram
